Posthuman Solidarities

Diese Ausstellung beendet den mehrteiligen Austausch „Let the Grassroots Grow” zwischen London und Dresden von Februar 2023 bis März 2025

Seit zwei Jahren ist riesa efau Teil eines mehrteiligen Austauschprogramms, das sich auf die Erkundung von Gemeinschaften und der breiteren internationalen Kunstszene konzentriert, indem es den Garten, die Natur und ökologische Aktivitäten als Begegnungsraum für Ideen und Kultur untersucht. Unsere Ziele sind, neue Perspektiven mit gemeinsamen Werten einzubringen und natürliche Produktionsprozesse zu entwickeln.

SET, riesa efau und Videocity suchen und fördern dabei den kontinuierlichen Austausch von Wissen, Erfahrung und Praxis über Grenzen hinweg. Wir wollen die „(Gras-)Wurzeln“ der einzelnen Teilnehmenden und die Zusammenarbeit zu einer nachhaltigen Partnerschaft über die kommenden Jahre wachsen lassen.

Ein Videoprogramm zum Thema „Posthuman“

Das  „Posthuman“-Videoprogramm entwirft Szenarien, bei denen der Mensch nicht länger im Mittelpunkt steht, sondern die vielmehr geprägt sind von Mikroorganismen, Maschinen aus organischem Material oder vollkommen neuartigen Lebewesen.

Das Posthumane ermutigt uns, rein menschliche Sichtweisen zu verlassen und eine umfassendere Koexistenz mit nicht-menschlichem Sein in unserer Welt zuzulassen. Dadurch werden neue Perspektiven eröffnet und verschiedene Zukunftsszenarien denkbar. Letztendlich wird ein Diskurs über ein harmonisches Zusammenleben mit einer nicht-menschlichen Umwelt entfacht.

Der Zyklus “Posthuman” zeigt sechs Videos von sechs Künstler*innen aus England und Deutschland. Aktuelle Fragestellungen werden aufgeworfen, wie unser Leben durch Wissenschaft und die Programmierung von Maschinen verändert oder weiterentwickelt werden kann. Darüber hinaus wird das Publikum angeregt, den derzeitigen Zustand der Menschheit zu überdenken. Wie könnte die Essenz des Menschseins neu definiert werden? Wie können wir im Zeitalter der ökologischen Katastrophen neue Möglichkeiten des Zusammenlebens sowie der Fürsorge fördern, während Technologie – zu nennen ist insbesondere Künstliche Intelligenz –  zunehmend unsere Existenz beeinflusst?

This exhibition marks the end of the multi-part exchange ‘Let the Grassroots Grow’ between London and Dresden from February 2023 to March 2025.

For the past two years, riesa efau has been part of a multi-part exchange programme that focuses on exploring communities and the broader international art scene by examining the garden, nature and ecological activities as a meeting place for ideas and culture. Our goals are to bring in new perspectives with shared values and to develop natural production processes. The exhibition “Posthuman” reflects this exchange, with a curated selection of video works by artists from London and Dresden.

The “Posthuman” Videocity cycle envisions scenarios where humans may no longer be at the core, painting pictures of realms populated by microorganisms, living machines made of organic materials or entirely novel modes of being.

Ever since the rise of speculative science fiction and the exploration of space in the 1960s, the status of human beings has been at stake as something ephemeral that can be superseded by technological innovations. The omnipresence of computer science and AI made technological props and prostheses become inseparable tools supporting life in many different areas. With the growing usage of AI and drive towards Artificial General Intelligence, questions arise as to which extent human behaviour and thinking can be mimicked or re-interpreted by machines.

Posthumanism encourages us to shift from solely human perspectives and embrace a more inclusive coexistence with nonhuman beings in our world. Opening up perspectives and imagining diverse futures through compassion­ate connections with others creates possibilities for embracing entirely different modes of existence—ultimately fostering harmonious cohabitation with the nonhuman realms.

The “Posthuman” cycle invites artistic positions that shape their forms of reality, questioning our current position and how our lives can be altered or developed further by science and the programming of machines. Moreover, Videocity encourages the public to contemplate and question the state of humanity by reflecting on how we might redefine the essence of being human.

How can we foster new ways of coexistence and care in an era of ecological disasters where technology increasingly influences our existence?
