“Utopia Today – A Walk”
I like when art takes a run-up in everyday life, picks up on something ordinary and creates something incredible, astonishing or moving from it in the blink of an eye. I am even more pleased to see this principle inspire contemporary art, because Robert Walser, who I research, was one of the first to transform the harmless and unspectacular into poetry. The short films I selected play with common occurences: people go for a walk with a ball at their feet; a beautiful garden turns out to be an eerie place; a grave in a playground remains empty; an unholy soundtrack emerges from the urban and the archaic; nature and rituals are manipulated by the media and become fragile, indistinguishable from poetry and errors.
