Vernissage and Talk – Friday 2nd September at 19.00

Historian Adrian Dürrwang, Bern, in conversation with Andrea Domesle, Videocity Head Curator. How do artists and curators work in the face of war? What can be the task of art and culture in war? The documentary "Day 4" filmed in Kharkiv, Ukraine, 28.02.2022 (27 min.) by Olia Fedorova will be shown prior to the talk.

The curators of the exhibition have been maintaining contact with the Eastern European art scene for many years. "What can we do for you now?" was their question to Ukrainian artists. "To be present in the art world – with the works we have created," was the answer. Thus, the Videocity team created an exhibition alliance and started fundraising campaign for Ukrainian video art (www.videocity.org/donate-for-ukraine). This is an important cause, as the scene has previously been marginalised by the Western professionals and the Russian attack also aims to destroy Ukrainian culture. Ukrainian video art is exciting, diverse and reflects current debates. It will now be presented over two months in the REX Box. The September programme focuses on gender, whereas the October programme on politics of memory.
